Member SUNY Geneseo Biology Department Receives Levison Award

Ed Beary, a member of the SUNY Geneseo Biology department, is this year's recipient of the CAS Levison Award of Excellence. This award, named after Dr. Kenneth Levison, recognizes outstanding achievement in one's professional position, as well as a high level of leadership skills and service contributions. The criteria for this award include having a consistently high level of performance that results in a recognizable and meaningful impact on the organization, and continuous involvement in supporting the mission of the organization while achieving results that serve as a role model to other members of the campus community.

Ed was nominated by professor and Chair of Biology, Robert W. O'Donnell, Ph.D. "It is my pleasure to nominate Edward Beary for the Levison Award of Excellence. Personally, Ed has been an asset to me as a new chair and helped make the transition much easier, especially related to the departmental budget and my PIF grant. He takes care of all orders and departmental spending related to purchases of laboratory supplies and equipment and provides accurate monthly reports. He also takes care of issues related to laboratory safety, equipment repair, and helping new faculty with their start-up funds. We are fortunate to have Ed as a member of our department. His work ethic is amazing in the time puts into the running of our department" O'Donnell said.

Ed was shocked to learn that he was this year's recipient. "It was a complete surprise. I can not remember anyone in my type of position, working directly with faculty on a day-to-day basis, ever receiving this award."

Thank you, Ed, for all you do for the SUNY Geneseo community and beyond!
